Jan van Ours is an associate of SEOR and professor at the Erasmus School of Economics. In the past decennia, he has been active in education and research in the field of labour economics, focusing primarily on the functioning of the Dutch labour market.

Recently he has studied the effects of winning the Dutch state lottery on the labour market position. Other studies in the field of labour economics concern the effects of a partial income exemption for single mothers with a social assistance benefit and the relation between productivity at the company level and the average age of the workforce of that company.

Furthermore, Jan has done research on the effects of parttime employment on well-being and the difference in happiness that people experience from a relationship between marriage and cohabition.
