Core Activities
SEOR’s core activities are divided into five clusters:
- Labour;
- Education and Training;
- Health;
- Sectors and Innovation;
- Regulation.
Wide Experience and Broad Expertise
A large part of SEOR staff has lengthy research and advisory experience. Foremost, they are well acquainted with the contents of their research areas. Furthermore, they master a broad scale of methods and techniques in the field of collecting data and analysis. With regard to the collecting of data, the main focus is on in-depth interviews and large scale (telephonic, written or electronic) surveys. The methods of analysis that are used are, among others, literature analysis, descriptive analysis, theoretical analysis, cost-benefit analysis, econometric analysis and simulation.
On top of this, SEOR is able to draw from specialist knowledge within the Erasmus School of Economics in the field of economic theory and econometric methods. In particular there is a collaboration in the fields of labour market (see ‘SEOR and SAB’ hereafter), international economics, competition and regulation (see ‘SEOR and ECRi’ hereafter) and socio-economics. Except for advisory and research assignments, teachers of the University are deployed for projects for which SEOR facilitates training and education.
SEOR and SAB
The objective of the Foundation for Labour Market Policy (Stichting Arbeidsmarktbeleid, SAB) is to stimulate research and teaching in the field of labour market policy. For this purpose the Foundation maintains a chair for which Jaap de Koning has been appointed. He participates in the capacity group Applied Economics of the Erasmus School of Economics and forms the link between applied and scientific research in the field of labour market and associated fields (such as productivity and innovation).
SEOR and ECRi
In the field of competition and market regulation the cooperation with the University is given shape via the Erasmus Competition and Regulation Institute (ECRi). This is a network of which SEOR, the Rotterdam School of Economics (Micro-economic section), the Rotterdam Institute of Law and Economics (RILE) and the iBMG are part.
